We arrived on Sunday, at 7am, Lisbon time.
I LOVED IT. It really is a great city. I'm pretty tired since we spent our days walking around the city. The weather was great, except the first couple of days, -3ºC, and on wednesday morning rained. We went to the Met and by the time we got out it wasn't raining anymore. I'm not sure what I liked more, Spamalot (so, so funny), Brooklyn Bridge (beautiful, great picx there), the museums (I end up just visiting the Met and MoMA, both amazing, we were very lucky with the exhibitions), walking around the Village or Central Park. We saw 5th avenue closed to traffic, a rally against police brutality. It was all really, really great! There are a few more but I guess these are the ones we hear more about.
Each have their own attractions: The Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, the amusement park on Coney Island or the Immigration Museum at Ellis Island.
I found this about the Staten Island Ferry:
The old orange-and-green boats usually have open decks along the sides or at the bow and stern; try to catch one of these boats if you can, since the newer white boats don't have decks. Grab a seat on the right side of the boat for the best view. On the way out of Manhattan, you'll pass the Statue of Liberty (the boat comes closest to Lady Liberty on the way to Staten Island), Ellis Island, and from the left side of the boat, Governor's Island; you'll see the Verrazano Narrows Bridge spanning the distance from Brooklyn to Staten Island in the distance.
When the boat arrives at St. George, Staten Island, if you are required to disembark, follow the boat-loading sign on your right as you get off; you'll circle around to the next loading dock, where there's usually another boat waiting to depart for Manhattan. The skyline views are simply awesome on the return trip. Well worth the time spent.

The Library

Yet another place I would really like to visit is The New York Public Library. Then head to some of the best consignment shops in the world to try and find these higher end fashions for less. Try consignment shops like Michael's Consignment Shop and Cancer Care Thrift Shop, where ladies who lunch sale last season's Chanel suits for rock bottom prices.

Explore Midtown. Visit the three B’s: Bergdorf, Barney's (which started off as men's discount suit retailer), and Bendel's - plus their more conservative cousin - Saks. Then head to Zara, Mexx, and the flagship H&M store to find similar fashions (but lower quality) for signficantly less.

Stop at Chelsea. Chelsea is as close to suburbian shopping as Manhattan gets with a Loehmanns (deals okay, sales staff horrible), Bed, Bath & Beyond, Old Navy (which has a large plus size section), and T.J. Maxx. However, you can find great deals while supporting worthy causes at the nearby Housing Works Thrift Shop, where I found a beautiful, barely worn, Donna Karan Collection evening dress for $45 (retail price- $1500+). Also take a stroll by the Find Outlet, which is really more like a boutique, with discounted finds from designers like Chloe, Paul& Joe, etc.

Shop Downtown. As long as authenticity doesn’t concern you, Chinatown is the perfect place to bargain hunt. The street is a knock-off mecca. Plus head to Gabay's outlet, a little known shoppers paradise off the beaten path.

Venture Outside of Manhattan. Some of the best shopping in Manhattan is located outside the island. Head to over to the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn for unqiue boutique and designs from up and coming designers who can't afford Manhattan rents. Also check out Aarons Brooklyn. This well-loved (read: messy) discount department store has been a mainstay in the Park Slope neighborhood since the days of the Brooklyn Dodgers. This description is from the press materials: "It all starts with a phone call, a gravely voice on the other end telling you where to be and when. Show up as requested and the game is afoot... Accomplice: New York guides its audience, grouped into teams of eight into an adventure in organized crime. Implicated in a scheme to help a notorious wise guy, teams are sent on a mission along the streets of New York, chasing down cryptic leads, relying only on information gleaned from seemingly chance meetings with Accomplice cast members and their own street smarts to make it to the end. The production relies on a troupe of improv-trained actors who alternately great, accost, and surprise unsuspecting teams as they approach."
It's 50$ per person but it seems a much more exciting way to know the city.

Whether or not in New York, Happy Halloween everybody

Street Food

I not sure we'll want to eat in the street, considering the cold it'll be out there, but one never knows, so here are some suggestions I found here:

Gyro Truck, on the corner of Wall and Pearl Streets, doles out killer chicken and cheesesteak sandwiches. Nearby is a Sausage Truck with Italian sausage sandwiches and grilled cheesesteaks (Whitehall and Pearl Sts.). Dosa Man fills rice and dal "shells" with heavenly spiced veggies at the southern end of Washington Square Park (4th and Sullivan Sts.). At Daisy Mae's BBQ chili carts (E. 50th St. near 6th Ave.; Broadway and W. 39th St.; 40 Wall St.), be sure to order the chunky Texas chili!

People rave about the goat stew and jerk chicken at Yvonne's Mobile Jamaican Restaurant (E. 71st St. and York Ave.). On weekdays, Hallo Berlin restaurants stock "the 'wurst' pushcart in New York" with bratwurst, Hungarian kielbasa, and other treats, in addition to red cabbage and potato pancakes (5th Avenue and 54th Street). Streetside falafel varies considerably in quality; look no further than Moshe's Falafel, which sells some of the crunchiest fried chickpea balls in town (6th Ave. and W. 46th St.; lunch only). At dinnertime, the well-reputed Taco Truck parks near the corner of W. 96th Street and Broadway. If you want caffeine, the bright orange Mudtruck sells upscale coffee drinks for less than most cafés (at Astor Pl. on 4th Ave.).

The MoMA

One of the places that we are sure to visit is the Museum of Modern Art, thought to be one of the best museums in the world.
